This obelisk beside the pond bears an inscription in Italian Il riposo di Claudio. The words are those of Uvedale Price, the 18th century writer on landscape design, describing the sense of pellucid calm in Claude Lorrain's paintings which landscape gardeners strove to achieve in their composed vistas of water, foliage and classically inspired structures. Across the pond here lies one such, the table tomb of Silver Cloud which may suggest to the viewer another meaning for riposo.

At the edge of the Wild Garden's landscape a bridge carries the painter's signature.
