The plaque beside this work reads

W. SHENSTONE 1714-63

William Shenstone, a poet and gardener who included verses and inscriptions in the landscapes of his garden at the Leasowes in Warwickshireshire, is honoured here. The wheelbarrow, an adjunct essential to the gardener, is elevated to iconic status by the use of bronze.
